Publication shows harms by US Blockade on Cuba

Havana, Jun 15 (Prensa Latina) The online publication Cubadebate shows the article "The Genocide of the Blockade in Numbers and Facts" the effects of the economic war that the United States is waging against Cuba, the human impact of which is incalculable.

The article mentions many facts, among the most significant being that 1,400 MW of distributed electricity generation in the country cannot be used because Cuba cannot purchase the diesel and fuel oil required by these generators, engines, and trucks.

It refers to the social cost of the blockade, citing as an example that some 1,800 children have been denied their right to life due to the doubling of the infant mortality rate in the country, more than 100,000 Cubans are on waiting lists for elective or reconstructive surgeries, and the National Immunization Program is at serious risk.

It also points out that 300 medications from the Basic Health List, out of the 395 produced in Cuba, are in short supply due to the inability to access raw materials and pharmaceutical supplies.

Furthermore, more than 100,000 Cuban children are not receiving their daily liter of milk, subsidized by the State, due to a lack of fuel to transport the milk from production units to major cities, primarily.

In addition, 170 containers of essential products that arrived in Cuba, equivalent to 6.3 million dollars, have not been distributed to their recipients due to fuel shortages.

They also mention that 11,000 tons of basic foodstuffs that the World Food Programme (WFP) already has in warehouses throughout Cuba are being distributed at a much slower pace than they should be due to fuel and transportation shortages.

The list is almost endless, and its effects extend to nearly every sector of society, the economy, commerce, and finance in the country, as Cubadebate reports.
