According to a post on his social media account by President Gustavo Petro, one million people should register to ensure the transparency of the process.
The president requested the presence of poll watchers when the ballot boxes are opened and stressed the need for them to compare the total number of voters who cast their ballots with the figure reported by the poll workers.
Petro emphasized the importance of these actions because, as he pointed out, “in the last round, one of the leading candidates had practically no poll watchers, and that’s why there were no challenges.”
The candidate for the Historical Pact, Ivan Cepeda, also recently addressed the importance of monitoring the electoral process.
He further reminded everyone that the use of cell phones and cameras is prohibited at polling stations and voting centers to minimize electoral crimes, including voter coercion.
The Ministry of Defense is offering up to 50 million pesos (US$14,400 at the current exchange rate) for information leading to the capture and prosecution of those responsible for electoral crimes.
