Recent statements by Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard noted that the meeting, initially scheduled for June 16, is taking place in DC.
Ebrard stated, “Mexico has formal talks underway and a review process in progress, which was a primary objective at the outset of these conversations, because it was not clear whether we would even have these formal talks.”
In one of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s regular press briefings, Ebrard emphasized that both nations will be making progress in the review process this week and underscored that his team is prepared to present all arguments.
During the first round in late May, Mexico and the United States made progress on an agenda aimed at strengthening the region’s competitiveness and reviewed priority issues, such as rules of origin for the automotive, steel, and aluminum sectors, and the region’s economic security.
