NGO accuses Israel of increasing repression against Palestinian women

Ramallah, Jun 16 (Prensa Latina) The Palestinian Prisoners' Society (PPS) accused Israel of increasing the number of arrests of women in the occupied West Bank and stated that at least 95 women are currently imprisoned in that country.

The organization cited asexamples the arrest of three women on Monday and the arrest last week of four students from Birzeit University.

Based on reports from NGO and lawyers, the institution denounced an escalation of abuses against Palestinian women in Israeli prisons, including beatings, humiliation, and systematic mistreatment.

It noted that female prisoners are subjected to harsh detention conditions, including medical abuse, isolation, assaults, and humiliating searches, in addition to severe overcrowding in cells, where some are forced to sleep on the floor.

The PPS emphasized that the pace of repression within Israeli prisons has intensified with repeated physical attacks and the imposition of systematic policies of abuse.
