The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates considered the latter measure a flagrant violation of international law and several UN Security Council resolutions.
The Ministry stated in a press release that the decision is “an attempt by the Israeli occupation and the authorities of so-called Somaliland to legitimize their presence in a territory where they possess no legal or political rights.”
Any political agreement or any change to the status of the city of Jerusalem, in its geography and demographics, is null and void, because it has no legal effect, the statement emphasized.
The text recalled that “any country or entity that opens diplomatic missions or embassies in occupied Jerusalem constitutes a violation of Security Council resolutions, in particular 476 and 478.”
Such actions encourage Israel’s colonial and expansionist policies and the resulting daily crimes against the Palestinian people, it emphasized.
The Ministry reiterated its rejection of the alleged recognition of Somaliland by Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, while expressing its full support for Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
Given this situation, it reiterated its call to the international community to abide by United Nations resolutions concerning the Palestinian cause and the question of Jerusalem.
