“Elections for deputies to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation will be held on September 20, 2026,” the text of the presidential decree published on the official regulations website reads.
The head of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Ella Pamfilova, announced that preparations for the elections would begin immediately.
Elections to the 450-seat Russian lower house are held every five years using a mixed system: 225 legislators are elected by party list and another 225 in single-member constituencies.
In the 2021 elections, 5,832 candidates competed: 3,812 on lists from 14 parties and 2,020 in single-member districts.
