“I Sign for Cuba”, the name of the initiative, also supported by the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), has gathered more than 2,000 signatures and delivered them to the Cuban Embassy in Montevideo.

Martinez noted in an interview with Prensa Latina, “We are working in the trade union and university sectors on an initiative through which we will collect more signatures in support of the Cubans’ resistance.”

He added, “We have printed forms, and we are going out to meet with people to explain the situation the Caribbean island is experiencing under the harassment of the United States and its blockade measures.”

Martinez, who was a former presidential candidate for the UP-Frente de Trabajadores (Workers’ Front) in the 2024 elections, reaffirmed his commitment to “support the Cuban Revolution, condemn imperialism and complicit governments, including those that remain silent.”
