Cuba condemns anti-Cuban resolution passed in the European Parliament

Brussels, Jun 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuba condemned the arrogant and undignified attitude of the European Parliament for passing a resolution, riddled with double standards, against the island in a divided vote on a proposal from the right wing in that body.

In the previous day’s plenary session, the right-wing European People’s Party, which holds a majority in the European Parliament, prevailed in order to obstruct ties between Cuba and the European Union as much as possible, a move that solidarity groups with the island had warned about.

A statement from the diplomatic mission in this capital indicates that the resolution against Cuba was passed with the support of the right wing and its extremes, in a plenary session held in the French city of Strasbourg.

This constitutes “another exercise in political manipulation, double standards, and subordination to the most extremist and hostile political agendas of the United States against the island,” the condemnatory text adds.

“Those who present themselves as champions of democracy and human rights are the same ones who, 24 hours earlier, in the same chamber, approved and celebrated, with xenophobic slogans, the expulsion of migrant families, including children, and instituted a European ICE emulating Donald Trump’s,” it states.

The approved text again insists on requesting the suspension of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement (PDCA) between Cuba and the European Union, the denunciation emphasizes.

Faced with the difficulties caused by an intensified US blockade, the European Parliament once again opts for confrontation, political manipulation, and hostility, instead of defending dialogue, mutual understanding, and international law, the statement indicates.
