A release published on the official website of CGIL, considered the largest labor union in this nation and one of the most important ones in Europe, indicates that this initiative, aimed at raising funds to finance the purchase and installation of solar panels and other social programs on the island, will continue this year.
This initiative follows a resolution launched in September 2025 to support the Cuban electrical system in the face of problems caused by the US blockade and exacerbated by Hurricane Melissa.
The CGIL has raised to date more than 300,000 euros for several projects.
The CGIL, in developing this program, joined forces with the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association (ANAIC), the Cultural and Social Promotion Association (ARCI), the international solidarity program Nexus, and the National Association of Italian Partisans (ANPI).
Among the entities that have benefited so far is a dairy center in Palma Soriano municipality, eastern Santiago de Cuba, which ensures the preservation and distribution of milk to more than 120,000 people.
The new donations made before June 30, 2026, will be used to provide renewable energy systems to several food security projects, community cultural centers, and healthcare facilities, while funds raised after that date will be used to purchase medical and school supplies.
