Aguayo, who currently represents Chile in Honduras and has an extensive career in the foreign service, will oversee the embassy’s operations in the Haitian capital and will hold meetings there with local authorities and other organizations.
The Comptroller General’s Office recently announced that more than 200 Haitian children entered the country between January and October 2025 for alleged family reunification, and 64 remain unaccounted for.
The transfer was conducted via charter flights departing from Haiti and stopping in the Dominican Republic.
In some cases, a single adult brought more than 30 children on the flight.
The National Migration Service filed, right after this information, a criminal complaint with the North Central Metropolitan Regional Prosecutor’s Office for the alleged crime of repeated child trafficking.
