In an interview with Canal Red Ame
rica Latina, based in Mexico, the Deputy Foreign Minister stated that this war takes place in two major and very negative actions against the island, which are having a very worrying humanitarian impact on the international community.
She mentioned, firstly, the application of the energy embargo, “a completely illegal measure,” and secondly, “the attempt to internationalize the blockade on Cuba, because it threatens, and in fact is already doing so, with the imposition of secondary sanctions on any foreign entity that has operated or is operating” with the island.
Vidal asserted that the impact this is having on the economy is already very visible.
Secondly, she stated that with these secondary sanctions, Washington’s goal is to completely disconnect Cuba from the international economic and financial system.
In her view, this amounts to “a total blockade that is constantly being perfected with these shameful measures, illegal under international law, and that is why they are generating rejection and concern from many experts, including those from the United Nations on human rights issues.”
Describing the situation faced by the people of the Caribbean nation, Vidal stated that “it is not by Cuba’s choice” but rather that “we are being constantly, progressively pushed toward a humanitarian crisis that has not yet occurred because there is a functioning government that is trying to take measures, to take steps to see how we can get out of this situation.”
Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Josefina Vidal emphasized that this is not just an economic war, intensified to unprecedented levels, but a multidimensional one, adding that “There are also direct, very real threats of military aggression, which we take very seriously.”
