Cuba resists fue blockade and makes progress in energy transformation

Montevideo, Jun 22 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's First Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines, Argelio Jesus Abad, stated that his country is currently resisting a brutal fuel blockade and is, in parallel, is making progress in its energy sovereignty strategy.

Abad spoke with Prensa Latina at the conclusion of a working visit to Uruguay, where he participated in the 8th Conference of Energy Ministers of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

The high-ranking official stated that the island is experiencing one of the toughest trials in its history due to the brutal tightening of the United States blockade and the threat of military aggression.

He remembered that Washington had imposed an oil blockade on his country, which it declared an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the sovereignty of the northern nation.

President Donald Trump also signed a new Executive Order establishing further sanctions in the energy sector.

Abad stated that barely a single fuel shipment has arrived in Cuba in six months, after mentioning several of the effects of the most recent sanctions on the island nation.
