Cuban Parliament rejects EU double standards

Havana, June 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's National Assembly of People's Power rejected the European Parliament's resolution on the complex situation facing the island, calling it "interference" and a "double standard" subservient to Washington's hostile agenda.

In a statement released here, the International Relations Committee of the legislative body denounced that the text approved on June 18 reflects “a high degree of interference, which ignores and defames the Cuban reality, its legal system, and the rule of law.”

The Cuban legislators pointed out that the debate that served as the basis for the resolution revealed “a strong ideological bias on the part of a group of conservative and far-right MEPs, some with known ties to anti-Cuban politicians based in the United States.”

The document calls for the suspension of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the EU, ignoring its legal nature and the institutional competencies within the European bloc, according to Cuban parliamentarians.

The resolution omits the intensification of the US blockade and the energy embargo as the main cause of the Cuban people’s hardships, which “demonstrates a complicit silence and undermines all objectivity in the document,” the text added.

The National Assembly called on MEPs to respect the Political Dialogue Agreement and to listen to European sectors that advocate for peace and cooperation.

For his part, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez denounced that right-wing political forces in the European Parliament prefer “to join the mendacious US narrative designed to justify the energy embargo, the extreme economic war, and the military threat of the US government against the Cuban people.”
