Al-Sharaa clarified, in an interview with Al-Mashhad TV, the statements attributed to US President Donald Trump over a possible Syrian role in Lebanon, and affirmed that they had been misinterpreted.
The president noted that Trump expressed his concern about the Lebanese situation and his desire to end the war, considering that Damascus could play a positive role in the search for a security solution, although this does not imply direct military involvement.
The head of State affirmed, “Syria’s role should be channeled through strengthening the institutions of Lebanon and establishing spaces for understanding among the different political forces.”
He rejected any return to the last formulas or to a tutelage over Lebanon and stated that Damascus favors a strategy based on institutional support and dialogue among political actors, including Hezbollah.
Al-Sharaa stated, “If dialogue with Hezbollah is necessary, we believe in dialogue.”
