In his appearance before the Spanish Congress of Deputies, the Spanish Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, announced that his Palestinian counterpart, Emad Hamdan, will travel to Madrid to participate in this meeting.
The main objective of the ministerial meeting is to create an international alliance to support the protection and reconstruction of Palestine’s cultural sector and heritage.
Urtasun, who appeared before the Culture Committee of the Lower House, explained that “this forum stems from a deep conviction: culture is one of the first victims of any process of mass destruction or any attempt to erase the identity of a people.”
It is also what unites peoples even in the most difficult times. It is a space for encounter, dialogue, and peacebuilding, he added.
The ‘International Forum for Palestinian Culture’ will have two parts: a ministerial meeting with international delegations and a citizens’ forum aimed at civil society.
