Mexico: MORENA and allies register for gubernatorial candidates

Mexico City, Jun 22 (Prensa Latina) The Mexican MORENA party and its allies began registering candidates for state coordinators for the defense of the transformation, to define their gubernatorial candidates for the 2027 elections.

The leadership of the MORENA party, the Labor Party (PT), and the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM) announced in a press briefing that the registration will extend until Saturday, with a break on Wednesday due to the match between Mexico and the Czech Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Monday’s registration is for the candidates from Aguascalientes, Baja California, Baja California Sur, and Campeche; Tuesday for Chihuahua, Colima, and Guerrero; Thursday for Michoacan, Nayarit, and Nuevo Leon; and Friday for Queretaro, Quintana Roo, Sonora, and San Luis Potosi.

Sinaloa, Tlaxcala, and Zacatecas will register candidates on Saturday at the World Trade Center in Mexico City.

Citlalli Hernandez, president of MORENA’s National Elections Commission, said, “Within the framework of our statutes, our own rules, and the internal workings of each party, we will combine our processes to define state coordinators for the defense of the transformation.”

The 17 coordinators will be selected later, based on the results of citizen surveys.
