In a joint statement released by the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, both sources confirmed that the first session of high-level talks under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding concluded in Burgenstock, Switzerland, with the participation of representatives from Iran, the United States, and the two mediating parties, Qatar and Pakistan.
They noted that the Lake Lucerne Summit, as the meeting was called, took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere and that Iran and the United States agreed to establish a High-Level Committee, which will provide political oversight of the mediation.
The chief negotiators will regularly brief the High-Level Committee and lead working groups focused on nuclear issues, sanctions, and a monitoring and dispute resolution group to ensure the effective implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding and other matters, the statement said.
The statement emphasized that the High-Level Committee also agreed on a roadmap to reach a final agreement within 60 days, laying the groundwork for the immediate start of new technical talks.
Furthermore, a communication channel was established between Tehran and Washington to prevent incidents and misunderstandings and thus ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
The conflicting parties agreed to the creation of a de-escalation cell, which includes Lebanon and is facilitated by the mediators, to ensure compliance with the cessation of military operations as stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding.
