Rodriguez posted on X, “Cuban health workers are fully mobilized and providing medical services to the affected population.”
The foreign minister expressed his “deepest condolences and solidarity with the government and the brotherly people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for the loss of life and damage caused by the earthquake.”
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) stated that two earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, respectively, struck Caracas and several other regions of Venezuela around 18:00 hours (local time) on Wednesday.
Acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez confirmed that dual earthquakes killed at least 32 people and injured more than 700, not including the victims in La Guaira state, the hardest hit, where dozens of buildings collapsed.
The acting president earlier declared a state of emergency in the country, summoned all medical personnel to their posts to care for the wounded, and announced the suspension of classes and non-essential activities for the remainder of the week.
