The fiction film, the first work of Uruguayan director Carlos Morelli, was showing for 13 weeks and surpassed 50,000 viewers, a figure that equals the total number of national premieres in his country in 2016.
Screenplay by Morelli and Martin Salinas, the film tells the story of Tito, a 13-year-old teenager who is extremely gifted at soccer.
His genius brings him a contact to lift him and his family out of poverty and leads him to drop out of school, until a setback forces him to reinvent himself.
The film is a co-production of La Gota Cine (Uruguay), Panda Filmes (Brazil), and Pensa & Rocca Producciones (Argentina), which received support from the Ibermedia Program in its 2013 call for proposals.
The cast includes Facundo Campelo (Tito), Jorge Bolani, and Nestor Guzzini, with Lucia Gaviglio as general producer and Sebastian Bednarik, Daniel Pensa, Miguel Angel Rocca, and Beto Rodrigues as co-producers, among others.
The film participated in the Busan International Film Festival of South Korea in 2017, where it competed in the Flash Forward section; the Guadalajara International Film Festival in Mexico, where it won the Sequencing and Strategy, Sound Post-Production, and Image Post-Production awards, and had a successful screening at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
