Diaz-Canel asserts no political changes will take place in Cuba

Havana, June 27 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Diaz-Canel stated at the 22nd Congress of the Cuban Workers' Confederation (CTC) that political changes will never have a place in Cuba amidst the socioeconomic transformations currently underway.

In his closing remarks, the leader asserted that these transformations are precisely aimed at “saving the Revolution and its social achievements,” as they are directed toward continuing the socialist orientation of the economy, regardless of claims made by hostile propaganda.

Malicious campaigns by U.S.-funded media outlets regarding Cuba—seeking to introduce neoliberal changes and demanding alterations to the country’s political model—are clearly visible.

The head of state highlighted the strong support shown at the congress for the approved transformations. At the same time, he emphasized the need to generate resources and wealth to continue building socialism on the island and to preserve achievements in areas such as health, sports, and social justice.

Elaborating on the measures to refine the system, the leader argued that the key lies in implementing them effectively. Furthermore, he noted that these measures are not new, “nor do they stem from—let alone represent—concessions or a response to threats from the United States.”

On this subject, he remarked that “they do not respond to demands from the recent round of talks; this is a sovereign decision made by the Cuban people.”

Additionally, during the final session of the Caribbean nation’s workers’ congress, the new National Council and Secretariat were selected, with Osnay Colina chosen as the Secretary General

of the Cuban Workers’ Ce Federation.
