Afghanistan reports 36 dead in Pakistani airstrike

Kabul, Jun 29 (Prensa Latina) Afghanistan reported 36 dead and 163 wounded, as well as destroyed homes, in a Pakistani airstrike in the provinces of Paktika, Paktia, and Kunar, confirmed by Islamabad.

On his Twitter account, Hamdullah Fitrah, deputy spokesman for the Afghan government, stated that the military action took place in the villages of Mandokhail, Walwast, and Barolo. He explained that there were civilian casualties, including women and children.

Pakistani authorities reported 29 deaths during the operation, which they said was based on intelligence and precision strikes against camps they described as terrorist hideouts near the border.

In a post on X, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar justified the military action as a response to a series of recent terrorist incidents in Pakistan targeting the civilian population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, as well as a specialized forces camp in Karachi.

Tarar said that during the operation, a high-ranking commander, Khan Farosh (alias Zabal), was killed along with three other Jamaat ul Ahrar militants, while several others were wounded.

According to Pakistani sources, three targets in Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar were destroyed, resulting in the deaths of 25 people considered militants by Islamabad.

The Pakistani minister emphasized that Islamabad remains committed to preserving peace and stability in the region, but, he noted, also to the safety and well-being of its citizens. In that regard, he affirmed that Pakistan will continue its campaign to eradicate what he defined as foreign-sponsored terrorism.
