Viengsay Valdes joins jury at Moscow Ballet Competition

Havana, Jun 29 (Prensa Latina Cuba's National Ballet (BNC) Director Viengsay Valdes is one of the members of the jury of the 15th International Ballet Competition in Moscow, Russia, where 158 dancers from 30 countries are competing.

The competition, considered the Olympics of world ballet, takes place at the renowned Bolshoi Theatre from June 25 to July 5.

According to historical records from the BNC, Valdes’s career boasts memorable moments in Russia.

She was invited in 2005 to share the stage with several international stars in a performance of the classic “Don Quixote” at the Kremlin Palace, as a tribute to Russian prima ballerina assoluta Maya Pisetskaya.

Bolshoi principal dancer Svetlana Zakharova is chairing the jury of the 15th Moscow International Ballet Competition in 2026 and has invited prominent figures, such as Viengsay Valdes (Cuba), Jovica Begojev (Serbia), Ying Feng (China), Cecilia Kerche (Brazil), Igor Kolb (Belarus), and Tamas Solymosi (Hungary) to serve on the panel.

Helen Azurmendi and Jason Baro, students from the “Fernando Alonso” National Ballet School, are representing Cuba at this competition.
