Oman rejects imposing fees in Strait of Hormuz

Muscat, Jun 30 (Prensa Latina) Oman's Foreign Minister, Badr Al Busaidi, affirmed on Tuesday that his country does not support imposing any fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Al Busaidi told reporters that solutions related to maritime services, such as improving navigational safety, emergency preparedness, and combating pollution, using models similar to those implemented in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, could be explored.

The Omani foreign minister reiterated his country’s commitment to regional detente and ensuring that navigation in the Strait of Hormuz remains safe and free for all, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

He also emphasized that Oman maintains diplomatic contacts to promote peace, support freedom of navigation, and facilitate the implementation of the agreements reached between Washington and Tehran.

Al-Busaidi indicated that any future agreement with Iran must comply with international regulations, while also remembering the commitment of Muscat and Tehran, as coastal states, to guarantee safe passage through the waterway.
