A resolution in support of Cuba also reaffirms the commitment to the right of peoples to self-determination and opposition to any threat or intervention that might affect the Caribbean nation’s sovereignty.
It also calls on the French government and the European Union to strengthen diplomatic and economic actions aimed at lifting the blockade and to oppose the extraterritorial effects of US sanctions.
The council decided to forward this declaration to the President of the French Republic, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Cuban Embassy in France, and associations showing solidarity with the island.
Furthermore, it included a space for dialogue and awareness-raising within the upcoming Festival of Solidarity, dedicated to Cuba, international cooperation, the consequences of the blockade, and concrete solidarity initiatives.
Likewise, the council of the city—part of the Greater Paris area—affirms that solidarity with the Cuban people can also be expressed through economic, cultural, and commercial exchanges.
In this regard, it requests that the city explore possibilities—while complying with the Public Procurement Code—to promote or utilize Cuban products during certain municipal receptions, gatherings, or events.
