The text, authored by analysts Luciano Vasapollo and Rita Martufi and titled “Cuba in the Crosshairs of the New Imperialism,” highlights the insight of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, who accurately observed that “fascism no longer necessarily presents itself in the historical forms of the 20th century.”

  Among the most significant transformations of capitalism and imperialism is the adoption of new political, economic, media, and even institutional configurations, while the expressions of the counter-revolution shift their language, tools, and key players.

  Nevertheless, their function remains intact: to defend the dominance of capital against any attempt at popular emancipation. “What is happening in Cuba today must be interpreted precisely from this perspective,” note Vasapollo and Martufi, co-founders of the Italian chapter of the Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity (REDH).

  Regarding US pressure on Cuba, “we are not dealing with a standard confrontation between different political systems or a simple diplomatic dispute.     Instead, we are witnessing a systematic offensive with characteristics reminiscent of modern forms of imperialist fascism,” they state.

  These actions constitute “a genuine, permanent economic war aimed at inflicting suffering on the civilian population, causing shortages of medicines and energy, hindering productive development, and imposing financial isolation”—a “strategy seeking to break a people’s resistance through material deprivation.”

  The *Il Faro di Roma* editorial highlights the resilience of the Cuban people—a nation that, “despite all difficulties, continues to represent a political experience placing the universal right to health, education, culture, and international solidarity at its core”—an alternative system that is intolerable to current fascist imperialism.
