The military institution announced on its official Telegram channel that, “in response to the terrorist attacks by the Kyiv regime on civilian infrastructure in Russia, the Russian Armed Forces launched a massive strike using attack drones and high-precision, long-range air, land, and sea weapons.”
The Ministry added that the attacks targeted military industry facilities and fuel and energy complexes in Kyiv and the surrounding region, as well as the infrastructure of military airfields in Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv.
Kiyv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the drone and missile attack on the Ukrainian capital and reported a large fire in the city, particularly in the Desnyansky and Shevchenko districts.
Russia has been conducting a special military operation in Ukraine since February 24, 2022, to protect the Donbas population from “the Kyiv regime’s genocide,” according to President Vladimir Putin.
It also aims to counter national security risks posed by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)’s eastward expansion.
