Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stated on the social media platform X that the security of the Strait is the responsibility of the riparian states and warned that those who provoke crises will have to face the consequences of their actions.
The Strait of Hormuz is not a stage for a show of military force by powers from outside the region, the diplomat noted, as quoted by Iranian media.
Gharibabadi maintained that Iran acts as a responsible state and guarantor of the security of this maritime route, and therefore warned against any military action in an area he described as sensitive.
The day before, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced in a joint statement that France and the United Kingdom are prepared to deploy a multinational military force to support freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
