In an indirect response to statements by US leader Donald Trump regarding the bilateral memorandum of understanding, Pezeshkian wrote on the X platform that the US government’s behavior—”as the host country of the soccer World Cup”—reflects its habitual foreign policy.
The Iranian leader accused Washington of manipulating the rules, intimidating competitors, creating obstacles, and resorting to deception.
“That is their strategy. Iran rejects these games and firmly defends its rights,” Pezeshkian stated.
His remarks follow Trump’s statement—made during the NATO summit in Ankara—that the memorandum of understanding with Iran was “over.”
The US president told the press that he believed “it was all over” and announced he would order his country’s negotiators to halt talks with Tehran, describing them as a “waste of time.”
