Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made this statement in response to the decision adopted on July 7 by the UN General Assembly, which passed with 136 votes in favor, 30 abstentions, and nine votes against—including that of the United States.
Mao noted that for over six decades, Washington has maintained the blockade and sanctions against Cuba—measures that were recently intensified and have exacerbated the energy crisis in the Caribbean nation.
The spokesperson emphasized that the General Assembly’s decision once again demonstrates the international community’s support for the Cuban people in defending their sovereignty, as well as its rejection of external interference and the blockade.
Mao urged the United States to heed the international community’s call and immediately end the blockade, sanctions, and any form of coercion or military threat against Cuba.
In this regard, she insisted that the prevailing trend of the current era must be for nations to advocate for justice and uphold unity in supporting countries like Cuba in their quest for dignity and freedom.
