The four-day event, which included working group and ministerial meetings, served to deliberate on shared priorities aimed at boosting gender equality and women’s empowerment.
India’s Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Annapurna Devi, affirmed at the closing session that while the BRICS nations come from diverse geographical, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds, they share common concerns related to women’s empowerment.
Women and Child Development Secretary Anil Malik stressed on the importance of the deliberations held during India’s presidency and affirmed that the BRICS Women Ministerial Joint Statement is tangible evidence of the shared determination to respond to the challenges that affect everyone.
India proposed, during the meetings, the BRICS Digital Repository of Best Practices as a shared platform for documenting and exchanging successful policies, programs, and innovations on women’s empowerment.
