Iran suspends trains between Tehran and Mashhad after US attack

Tehran, Jul 9 (Prensa Latina) Iranian authorities announced today the temporary suspension of rail service between Tehran and Mashhad, after an American attack on a section of that line.

The official Iranian agency IRNA quoted Javad Mirajifar, public relations director of Khorasan Railways, who reported on the incident.

Mirajifar explained that the US attack wastargetted to a point on the railway line between Tehran and Mashhad, which caused the temporary interruption of passengers service of the trains on that route.

He added that technical teams were sent to the site of the attack and that repair work on the damaged section is ongoing.

The official stressed that efforts are being made to restore service as soon as possible.

On the eve, the US announced attacks on Iran for a second consecutive day, while Tehran declared that it had responded with missiles against US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.

These events followed announcements by Saudi Arabia and Qatar of attacks on two of their oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.

Washington also revoked the license issued on June 21, which allowed the sale of Iranian oil for 60 days.

On June 18, the US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding and began difficult negotiations, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, to reach a final agreement.

However, this Wednesday, US President Donald Trump declared the memorandum rescinded and threatened to attack Iran again.
