Rio-based Cuba solidarity committee honors Che Guevara in Brazil

Brasilia, Jul 9 (Prensa Latina) – The Rio-based Cuba Solidarity Committee honored the legendary Argentine-Cuban guerrilla fighter Ernesto "Che" Guevara (1928–1967), whose legacy continues to inspire revolutionaries worldwide.

An image of Che was screened onto a building in downtown Rio de Janeiro, following remarks made by a U.S. diplomat during a session held the previous day at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Alongside Che’s image, the solidarity group displayed the phrase: “In Latin America, today more than ever, your light shines brightest.”

Following the offensive statements made by American official Mike Waltz—the U.S. Permanent Representative to the UN—Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez rejected the verbal attack.

In his rebuttal, the Caribbean nation’s foreign minister stated that an inconsequential U.S. official had invoked names of universal stature and legacy.

“Mr. Waltz, in a short time, no one will know who you are. Che Guevara will continue to be born anew in every Cuban fighting against the imperialism you represent,” Rodriguez emphasized.

The committee regularly carries out actions to support Cuba—the largest of the Antilles—and to pay tribute to historical figures of the Revolution through public activities, political events, and cultural demonstrations in Rio de Janeiro.
