We return to Cuba with pride, says brigade doctor in Guatemala

Guatemala City, Jul 9 (Prensa Latina) "We return to our homeland with pride and our heads held high," stated Juan Miguel Guerra, a member of the Cuban Medical Brigade (BMC) in Guatemala, during a farewell ceremony in the capital.

Speaking at the bye ceremony—and representing the more than 11,000 health professionals from the Caribbean island who provided assistance in the country—the doctor emphasized that they had fulfilled the mission entrusted to them.

“We carried Medicine as a banner of solidarity and hope,” he remarked in the presence of Nazario Fernandez (Cuba’s ambassador to the country), members of the BMC leadership council, and colleagues.

“It was not easy, but the strength of Cuba, the inspiration of our history, and the commitment to the principles that guide us were always present,” he asserted.

“I take with me experience, lessons learned, and the affection of a brotherly people who welcomed us with gratitude,” added the physician, speaking also before representatives of the island’s state mission in the country.

“I have seen smiles return, I have stood by families during difficult times, and I have learned from the strength and dignity of this people,” he elaborated.   “I return ready to continue serving wherever the Revolution needs me, because being a Cuban doctor is more than a profession; it is an eternal commitment to life and dignity,” he concluded.
