President Diaz-Canel highlights Cuban victory at the UN

Havana, Jul 10 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel highlighted a diplomatic victory at the United Nations, where the world once again overwhelmingly demanded an end to the United States blockade against the island.

The president met with Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez early this morning following the historic session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to the Office of the Presidency.

The statement notes that the head of state welcomed Cuba’s top diplomat at Havana’s José Martí International Airport, accompanied by First Deputy Foreign Minister Gerardo Penalver.

Diaz-Canel described the events of July 7 as “a victory of great significance amidst the difficult situation Cuba is facing” due to the hostile policy of the U.S. government—a policy intensified to unprecedented levels through the imposition of an energy blockade, secondary sanctions, and threats of military aggression.

The report points out that Diaz-Canel and Rodriguez discussed the details of that momentous day, during which 136 countries voted in favor of bringing the inhumane consequences of the blockade against an entire nation to the General Assembly for debate, while nine voted against.

Once again, the truth of the Cuban people and the strength of international law made themselves felt in that arena, considered the UN’s principal deliberative and representative body, the statement emphasizes.

On his X account, following the meeting with the foreign minister, the president underscored that the resounding victory in the UN General Assembly demonstrated the world’s overwhelming support for Cuba in its struggle against the U.S. government’s genocidal blockade.
