Ukraine admits Russian-attacked arsenal was near homes

Kyiv, July 12 (Prensa Latina) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged that the weapons depot in the town of Vyshneve, in the Kyiv region, which was attacked by Russia, had been set up near residential buildings.

“I received detailed reports on the situation in the town of Vyshneve, where an explosion occurred at a weapons depot and a fire broke out,” Zelenskyy said in a video released by the president’s press office.

He stated that officials from the Ukrainian state defense company, Ukroboronprom, had set up the arsenal in a town near residential buildings, allegedly in violation of instructions.

Anna Skorokhod, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine’s unicameral parliament), had previously stated that Ukroboronprom and the Ministry of Defense were storing ammunition and missiles for air defense systems at that arsenal.

Russia has previously alleged that the Ukrainian army frequently uses civilian infrastructure for its own purposes, setting up arsenals and holding troop gatherings there. Furthermore, the military uses civilians as human shields and often fires indiscriminately at civilian targets.
