The head of Cuba’s diplomatic mission in this European nation thanked Fico for the encounter. The meeting shows the good relations existing with the Five Star Movement (M5S)—Italy’s third-largest political force—of which Fico is a member of.

  Cepero briefed the regional president on the current situation on the island, which is the target of an intensified aggressive U.S. policy featuring measures that exacerbate the criminal economic, commercial, and financial blockade—actions that violate international law.

  He referred to the U.S. government’s latest actions, including a genocidal energy blockade and other economic measures aimed at causing severe harm to the Cuban people and violating their human rights, compounded by threats of attacks against the country.

  The ambassador discussed the interest in strengthening existing cooperation across various fields between his country and Italy—particularly with Campania—and highlighted the diverse campaigns in support of Cuba that have intensified in the nation since the beginning of the year, many of which took place in Naples and other cities in that southern region.

  During the meeting, the governor expressed the local authorities’ interest in “maintaining a relationship based on solidarity, dialogue, and community support,” a statement from the regional government notes.

  In this regard, he emphasized the importance of maintaining stable and active cooperation channels through new joint initiatives, “basing future bilateral agreements on the values ​​of international solidarity and intercultural dialogue,” the document adds.
