India launches its campaign for UN Security Council

New Delhi, Jul 14 (Prensa Latina) India officially launched its campaign to be elected as a non-permanent member at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2028-2029 term, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced.

Foreign mmm sAffairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar affirmed during the application made at UN headquarters in New York that his country has consistently championed dialogue and diplomacy and has sought to give voice to the concerns of the Global South.

Jaishankar stated that India’s presence on the UNSC would contribute to strengthening decision-making in this vital body.

The Indian minister highlighted, regarding priorities, multilateralism and global governance reform, the participation of the Global South, peacekeeping, and technology and digital security, with a humanist vision.

The diplomat also mentioned maritime security, the fight against terrorism focused on cutting off sources of funding and boosting targeted lists of terrorist groups, and working toward climate action and environmental justice.

Jaishankar noted that the world faces an increasing conflict and instability, making the role of the United Nations more crucial than ever, and referred to his country’s policy of promoting peace, security, and equitable development globally.

India served as a non-permanent member of the UNSC eight times; the most recent term was from 2021 to 2022.
