Upon receiving Alina Aldama, Cuban ambassador at the Presidential Palace, the two parties held a productive working meeting to discuss matters of mutual interest.

  The ambassador from the Caribbean nation expressed gratitude for Timor-Leste’s historic support regarding multilateral issues, highlighting the speech delivered on July 7 at the United Nations by Counselor Licinio Branco.     That speech took place when Cuba presented Agenda Item 38 concerning the need to end the unjust economic, financial, and social blockade affecting the Cuban people.

  She provided the Timorese leader with a detailed explanation regarding the strangulation of the island nation’s economy, reflected in the energy deficit that impacts the well-being and daily lives of Cuban families.

  The diplomat also emphasized the firm conviction and support of the people for the revolutionary government, which seeks to implement immediate economic and social transformations.

Both parties also addressed other matters within the framework of bilateral cooperation.

  Cuba has maintained cooperative relations with Timor-Leste since 2004—primarily in the health sector through the support of a medical brigade—and has also contributed to the training of specialists in that field.
