Dr. Edis Miguel Martinez underscored in an emotional farewell ceremony, on behalf of the more than 11,000 health professionals who served in Guatemala, that the work was not easy, but the strength of the island was always with them.

“Also, the inspiration of our history, the commitment to the principles that guide us,” added Martinez, a native of the Cuban province of Cienfuegos, who served as coordinator for the Suchitepequez department.

The physician concluded, “I will arrive in Cuba with honor, ready to continue serving wherever the Revolution needs me, because being a Cuban doctor is more than a profession; it is an eternal commitment to life, dignity, and solidarity with all nations.”

Cuban Ambassador to Guatemala, Nazario Fernandez, described the moment as moving, “seeing the force with which they recited, danced, and expressed their feelings.”
