In a post on the social network X, the lawmaker from the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL) stated that Washington “wants to steal Brazil’s wealth” and that the decision to designate the Brazilian criminal organizations First Capital Command (PCC) and Red Command (CV) as terrorist groups usa a “smoke screen.”
According to Braga, the United States has previously resorted to similar arguments to impose sanctions and boost the destabilization of Latin American countries such as Cuba and Venezuela.
The parliamentarian asserted that the true interest behind the terrorism classification lies in access to strategic resources, noting that Brazil holds the world’s second-largest reserve of rare earth elements—minerals considered essential for the development of advanced technologies.
“Who are the real terrorists?” Braga asked, accusing Washington of using the rhetoric of fighting crime to “impose geopolitical terror, violate borders, and subjugate nations in order to plunder their wealth.”
He also criticized the Brazilian far-right, stating that members of former President Jair Bolsonaro’s family and their allies are acting abroad to call for sanctions against Brazil.
Braga concluded his message with a call to mobilize in defense of national sovereignty and urged his followers to share the post and spread the slogan on social media: “Brazil is sovereign.”
