President of Cuba thanks the visit of US congressmen

Havana, Jul 15 (Prensa Latina) The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today thanked the recent visit of US congressmen and the possibility for them to see the consequences of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington.

The also first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba pointed out in his account in X that at the meeting with Mark Pocan, Maxine Dexter, Teresa Leger and Delia Ramirez they talked about the serious damage and the humanitarian impact on the Cuban people of this policy intensified to extreme levels, the energy fence and secondary sanctions.

A delegation from the United States House of Representatives visited the island between July 9 and 13, and saw firsthand in their exchanges the severe collective punishment to which the US government subjects the people of the Caribbean nation.

“They have witnessed the inhumane impact of the genocidal policy designed from South Florida and launched by the Secretary of State.

As they themselves recognize #CubaNoEsUnaAmenaza (Cuba is not a threat, the blockade yes”), noted Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez in his social network X account.

The Foreign Minister also released a statement signed by lawmakers outlining the damage caused by the escalation of the policy of harassment.

They concluded that the US fuel blockade “is causing indiscriminate suffering to the most vulnerable Cubans, contributing to blackouts across the country, littering on street corners, and severe shortages of food, medicine, and public transportation.”

They stated that the Donald Trump administration has not presented evidence that the island poses an imminent threat to US national security.

They also considered that any pretext used to undertake an illegal, unauthorized and unpopular military operation against the island would aggravate a serious humanitarian catastrophe, would expose members of the US military to risks and harm precisely those whom they claim to support.

They urged President Trump and other congressmen to listen to the majority of US and Cuban citizens, as well as the rest of the world, and lift “the cruel sanctions that weigh on the Cuban people and start serious and comprehensive negotiations with the authorities in Cuba.”
