In statements to the press from the Przemyśl railway station in Poland, before traveling to Kiev, Fidan reported that he will make an official visit to Ukraine and meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky and other senior officials.
The head of Turkish diplomacy explained that the contacts are part of Ankara’s efforts to support a negotiated solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
He recalled that Turkey hosted several rounds of talks between representatives from Moscow and Kiev in Istanbul last year.
Fidan expressed confidence that the visit will contribute positively to ongoing efforts to bring about a cessation of hostilities.
The war began on February 24, 2022, when Russia launched a military offensive against Ukraine.
Moscow is demanding that Kiev renounce membership in Western military alliances, while the Ukrainian authorities regard this status as interference in their internal affairs.
