Diaz-Canel warns of dangerous version of McCarthyism returning to US

Havana, Jul 17 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel warned that a new and more dangerous version of McCarthyism has returned to the United States, referring to the ministerial meeting convened by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

With a threatening transnational reach, far-right alliances—reminiscent of Hitler-era fascism or the sinister Operation Condor—are being boosted to lash out against a supposed global “radical left,” the leader warned on his social media accounts.

Diaz-Canel pointed out that the imperial right and its acolytes are the ones who are dangerously radical; they are responsible for, among other crimes, the genocide in Gaza, extrajudicial killings, hunting down, torture, and murder of migrants, the bombing of a girls’ school in Iran, and the genocidal blockade against the Cuban people. “The list is endless,” he emphasized.

Diaz-Canel noted that the true danger to humanity is the philosophy of dispossession that dictates the warmongering actions of the transnational far-right.

For his part, the Caribbean island’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, stated that the US Secretary of State—whose political career unfolded among notorious and well-known terrorists—has the audacity to lie without scruples, making baseless accusations regarding alleged Cuban financing and sponsorship of terrorism.

This is what US Secretary of State Marco Rubio did in his opening speech at the Ministerial Meeting on the “Resurgence of Political Terrorism,” where he constructed a supposed global terrorist threat using decontextualized facts, figures lacking verifiable backing, unproven accusations, and rhetoric that casts the left as a violent enemy.

Rubio spun numerous lies about progressive movements worldwide, and regarding Cuba, he reiterated his fallacious claims—without providing evidence—as noted by Reuters and condemned by Cubadebate in its Media Observatory section.
