During the opening of the World Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference (WAIC), Xi affirmed that the creation of the World AI Cooperation Organization is a significant step by China for responding to the call from the Global South and boosting the development and governance of this technology.

The president underscored that the new organization, established in Shanghai, will mark a milestone in the history of AI development.

The head of State announced that, over the next five years, Beijing will offer 5,000 specialized AI training positions for professionals from developing countries.

Xi also informed that the country will boost the creation of international cooperation centers for AI applications targeting the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Arab League (AL), the African Union (AU), the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the BRICS.

The 2026 WAIC and the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance are being held from July 17 to 20 in Shanghai.
