ZAST denounces CMA CGM’s complicity in US blockade against Cuba

Harare, Jul 17 (Prensa Latina) The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust (ZAST) denounced the French shipping company CMA CGM for its complicity in the United States' blockade policy against Cuba by leaving dozens of containers stranded in Jamaica.

ZAST warned that the cargo destined for the Caribbean nation, left in the port of Kingston, includes more than 3.5 million syringes and needles sent by the Spanish solidarity organization SODePAZ for the healthcare system in Santiago de Cuba.

The containers abandoned in breach of contracts also contain mattresses and pillows sent by Defensem for families displaced by Hurricane Melissa.

The complaint stated that CMA CGM’s offer to the shippers is to return the merchandise to its port of origin or pay again to have it shipped through another company.

ZAST considers that this action is tantamount to abandoning the humanitarian aid that seeks to appease Washington’s illegal and extraterritorial sanctions regime.

Zimbabwe has been familiar with this pattern for over two decades due to the corrosive effects of unilateral coercive sanctions imposed by the same architects of coercion, aimed at attacking a government, its citizens, trade, and the sick.

We call on shipping companies, financial institutions, and corporations from the Global South and other regions to refuse to serve as instruments of a blockade that the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has condemned for more than three decades.
