The productions *Cinco historias de amor y un boleron desesperado* (Five Love Stories and a Desperate Bolero), by filmmaker Arturo Santana, and *Neurotica anonima* (Anonymous Neurotic), directed by actor and filmmaker Jorge Perugorria, are participating in the festival’s fiction category.
Meanwhile, Luis Ernesto Donas’ debut feature, *Baracoa*, is being presented as a special screening at the event, which was founded in 2003 by the late filmmaker Humberto Solas.
Santana’s feature film presents a range of characters seeking happiness in the face of loneliness, while Perugorria’s work explores the life of an elderly woman confronting a crisis in her surroundings.
Donas’ film highlights a “simple” aesthetic through a symbolic journey from Havana to the easternmost tip of Cuba, where the protagonists seek to build a future based on human connection.
The film festival maintains its long-standing mission of showcasing low-budget cinema with high artistic value, promoting cultural decolonization and emerging talent rooted in the realities of the Global South.
