Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel presented the national flag to Leyanis Perez and wrestler Luis Orta.
Weightlifter Mari Felix Sarria, a two-time world medalist in the top category, read the delegation’s pledge, promising total commitment in every competitive arena.
On behalf of the 362 athletes competing in 501 events, weightlifter Otto Oñate and swimmer Andrea Becali laid a floral offering at the base of the Jose Marti Monument.
Meanwhile, the First Secretary of the Young Communist League (UJC), Meybis Estevez, remembered the feat of the *Cerro Pelado* (1966) and expressed appreciation for the athletes who have trained under very difficult conditions resulting from the United States government’s blockade.
A special moment occurred when former wrestler Mijain Lopez—a five-time Olympic champion—was announced as the first Cuban selected as a “country brand” ambassador, in recognition of his outstanding achievements and his example of dedication and sacrifice.
The event was also attended by Vice President Manuel Marrero and the head of the Cuban Sports Institute (INDER), Osvaldo Vento, among others.
Afterwards, a dozen members of the athletic contingent received their UJC membership cards, and canoeist Yarisleidis Cirilo received her university degree.
