Cuban Ambassador to Italy, Jorge Luis Cepero, along with other members of the diplomatic mission, participated in the event held at the Sierra Maestra mountain range, named after the Cuban mountain range that, between 1956 and 1959. It was an impregnable stronghold of the revolutionary struggle led by Fidel Castro.

Cepero recounted episodes from the life of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution to those in attendance, just a few days before his 100th birthday on August 13, according to a statement from the organizers published on the Contropiano online newspaper, official publication of the Communist Network.

The ambassador highlighted Fidel’s unwavering faith in victory, the enduring relevance of his work and thought, which are of great importance in the face of the grave threats facing the country. Cepero also spoke about the reality his country is currently experiencing, which has been a victim for more than six decades of a multidimensional war waged by the United States, aimed at subduing an entire people through hunger and deprivation, an inhumane policy that tightened in January 2026 with a genocidal energy blockade.
