Confirmation of support for the Caribbean nation appears in a resolution regarding the political situation, approved this Saturday in São Paulo by the organization’s National Directorate, with an eye toward the 2026 Brazilian elections.
In the document, the PSOL notes that the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth—to be commemorated in August—constitutes “a milestone for reaffirming our solidarity with Cuba” and for participating in initiatives organized around that date.
According to the political group, the anniversary also represents a landmark moment to recognize “the historical importance of anti-imperialist revolutions and the struggles for the sovereignty of peoples that have shaped Latin America.”
The organization maintains that this agenda reaffirms the enduring relevance of internationalism and the need to strengthen ties among the continent’s popular and democratic forces in the face of challenges imposed by contemporary imperialism.
Regarding other aspects of the international landscape, the party considers the current situation to be marked by an offensive from the far-right, led by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Furthermore, the resolution warns of potential attempts at interference in Brazil, citing initiatives by the Trump administration such as the classification of Brazilian criminal organizations as “narco-terrorists” and the recent imposition of a 25 percent tariff on Brazilian products.
