Cuba boosts international innovation project at universities

Holguin, Cuba, Jul 20 (Prensa Latina) The Innolabs international project is currently strengthening innovation and entrepreneurship in Cuban universities through laboratories dedicated to solving local problems and strengthening the link between academia and society.

Marisol Perez, Vice-Rector of Strategic Management at the University of Holguin (UHo), stated that the initiative is being developed in institutions of Ecuador and Cuba, and, in the case of Cuba, the Technological University of Havana (CUJAE), the University of Cienfuegos, and the Holguin-based educational institution are participating.

Funded by the European Union (EU)’s Erasmus+ program, the project boosts the creation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) laboratories to develop sustainable programs and address community needs, with young people playing a leading role.

Perez explained that the laboratories will be equipped with specialized equipment to foster the development of practical skills, including the development of prototypes, as part of the initiative’s material contributions.

The region fosters research and events, such as the CreLab 2026 Hackathon, to find creative solutions for the construction materials industry, bringing together students from the Industrial, Mechanical, and Computer Engineering degrees.
